Thank you for visiting the Super Readers website.
Raising bilingual children is an enormous task often misunderstood by most new parents. Quickly we discover that just because one spouse is fluent and literate in English this does not mean our children will magically be fluent and literate in English. Raising a bilingual child takes a lot of hard work. It is a time and labor intensive process. This site is devoted to parents in Japan who are raising their child to be fully bi-lingual (fluent and literate) in English and Japanese.
Most children in bi-cultural families can reasonably maintain their listening and speaking skills but have trouble developing their reading and writing skills. Literacy does not happen by itself and it does not happen over night. It requires regular, consistent study over a long period of time.
If you wish your child to be a fluent and literate bi-lingual speaker of English and your child is not currently in a reading and writing program, this is your call to action. There are no quick fixes here, just dedicated teachers working to help your child achieve literacy in English. The time to start this marathon race is now.
The Super Readers courses are designed for children of bi-cultural families, native English speaking children and returnees (kikokushijo) in grades 1 - 6 living in Nagoya, Japan.
